I always thought it was silly when people said God wrote a song through them. It kinda smacks of false humility. Instead, just say it like it is: I wrote that song. There's nothing prideful about it. God created us to create. Creation can't help but give glory to the ultimate creator.

P.S. At this very moment I am listening to the album "High Violet" by The National. Highly recommended. :)
Interesting perspective.
ReplyDeleteI have always had a problem accepting compliments...not wanting to take the credit when I know it's Him in me, yet knowing He gave the ability/gift, etc. And, yes, often feeling trite or falsely humble about it! I still haven't figured out the balance.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Yeah, I guess there's a balance. Also, the Spirit of God can give us words that we wouldn't normally sing in and of ourselves, such as in spontaneous worship and whatnot, but even then there's sort of a mixture of our spirits with His. But yeah, I think He wants us to take compliments. It gives glory to Him, because we were created in His image. Humility isn't defacing ourselves, but knowing who the source is. Which is what you're saying I guess. ha ha But it's also good to recognize that He created us to be unique expressions of Himself with unique voices and giftings. He doesn't want us to be mindless. He doesn't want to control us, contrary to popular belief. He takes joy in our individuality, which is different from independence. We are to be dependent individuals, relying upon Him as our source but also unique in our expression. ha ha Now I'm rambling. But it's good to share with each other. That's how we grow. I enjoy hearing your thoughts on it. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you...certainly not "disputing" what you've shared. And yeah, sharing with one another causes to grow and stretch too!
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I am one of those people who would rather be in the background and don't "need" compliments! hehehe I was a shy, quiet child and never learned how to really receive compliments.
Now that God has brought me toward the "front" so to speak, I am learning to receive compliments...uh, sort of... :)
I usually just smile and say, "thanks"...
